The windbreaker fills a specific gap in outerwear that not many other pieces handle as well which is the warm but windy and possibly lightly damp day that is genuinely most days in this country for at least six months of the year. It's lighter than a jacket but more protective than a shirt and it packs down to almost nothing which makes it the piece you end up being grateful you brought on roughly half the days you take it out.
